When choosing a TEFL course, it is important to make sure that the course you are considering is accredited and moderated by an external body to ensure that you will receive the highest standard of training and facilities.
Our 190-hour intensive 4-week TEFL courses in Barcelona are offered in partnership with the International TEFL Academy and lead to an OFQUAL recognized TQUK Level 5 Award Certificate in TESOL (equivalent to CELTA).
The TQUK TEFL Certification
The Barcelona TEFL course curriculum has been externally monitored and approved by TQUK (Training Qualifications UK), an officially recognized awarding organization that is regulated by Ofqual.

190-Hour TEFL Course Description
This highly comprehensive level 5 TEFL course in Barcelona consists of 90 in-class hours and 100 hours of self-study and project work.
During the first two days of this level 5 TEFL course in Barcelona, you will have the opportunity to observe experienced teachers – usually your trainers – teach the same groups of students you will be teaching later on.
From this observation you will gain valuable insights into EFL teaching, a solid model for structuring your own lessons, and activities and techniques that you will be able to use later in your teaching practice, whether in Barcelona or farther afield.
Spread out over the course you will teach a total of 6 observed and assessed lessons to groups of local Spanish students at various levels, such as elementary, intermediate and upper-intermediate or advanced. Your teaching practice will also include the opportunity to teach a lesson to young learners at a language school.
In addition, you will teach 3 unobserved one-to-one lessons. You will prepare and teach these lessons together with a fellow trainee as part of your Student Profile Project which prepares you for teaching private students.
The morning sessions with the trainers will cover all aspects of TEFL methodology, inluding:
- EFL teaching principles: The role of the teacher and the role of the student.
- Lesson planning models & planning different skill lessons: Teaching speaking, reading, listening, grammar, vocabulary and writing.
- Exploiting materials and using course books to plan lessons.
- Using music and songs in your English lessons.
- Using visual aids, video and film in your English lessons.
- Grammar: Parts of speech, auxiliary and main verbs, the English verb system – tenses, forms and functions. Futures. Passive voice.
- Classroom management and teacher language.
- Error correction: Oral and written.
- Phonology: Word stress, sentence stress, features of connected speech and intonation. The IPA chart – consonants and vowel sounds in British and American English.
- Using technology in the classroom.
- Teaching one-to-one classes.
- Testing and teaching exam preparation classes.
- Phrasal verbs, idioms and colloquialisms
- Teaching business English.
- Teaching young learners.
As part of this intensive 190-hour level 5 TEFL course in Barcelona, you will experience what it’s like to be a language learner. You will be given a lesson in an unknown foreign language at beginner level, taught solely in that language without recourse to English. This will give you the opportunity to experience the methodology from a student’s perspective and gain valuable insights and techniques for teaching beginners yourself.
During this intensive level 5 TEFL course, you will be required to study the various chapters of the course manual in advance of the theory sessions to help you better participate and interact with your fellow trainees during the class. You will also be assessed on your reading through a series of simple online quizzes.
You will have three lesson plan projects throughout this intensive TEFL course:
- A one week program of 3 lessons for a beginner course.
- A lesson based on a reading comprehension for intermediate students.
- A lesson based on a video for beginner students.
Together with another trainee teacher you will evaluate a private student’s level, their needs and goals. Based on this analysis you will then plan and teach your student a lesson tailored to their needs and goals.

School Facilities
These 4-week intensive TEFL courses run year-round in Barcelona and take place at our new centre located in the central Eixample area, close to Gaudi’s famous Sagrada Familia.
The facilities include 4 classrooms and work areas, fully equipped with Wi-Fi, modern computers, projector, printer and photocopier, and a library full of current EFL course books and teaching materials.
