What is TEFL
TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) are two acronyms that stand for the same thing.
TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) was originally used to refer to teaching English within an English speaking country. ELT – English Language Teaching – is another term that is sometimes used.
At TEFL Barcelona we take the view that our student-teachers are the most important element of all our courses. We give all our student-teachers the closest personal attention possible and endeavour to support them from the moment they choose their courses until they spread their wings, become experienced teachers and do not need us any longer.
TEFL courses overview
Our students, future teachers of English as a Foreign Language, come from different backgrounds, with a variety of needs and goals. Our aim is to cater to their learning needs and help them improve their English teaching skills and their employability through both intensive and extensive training. To achieve this, we have partnered with several schools around Barcelona and we are therefore able to offer a broad range of courses. Our job is to help you choose the course that best suits you.
Choose between three TEFL teacher training courses with internationally recognised certificates
When choosing a TEFL course it is important to make sure that the course you are considering is accredited and moderated by an external body to ensure that you will receive the highest standard of training and facilities.
190-hour Level 5 TEFL course
Our year-round courses with the International TEFL Academy lead to an OFQUAL recognised TQUK Level 5 Award Certificate in TESOL.
120-hour intensive TEFL course
For our intensive summer courses, we partner with TEFL International. The TEFL International courses are accredited by Fort Hays State University.
Studying and working in Spain when you require a visa
To be eligible to apply for a Student Visa in Spain you must be enrolled in an educational course (in Spain) that lasts for a minimum of 7 months.
There are two ways to do this, but the easiest and cheapest way to obtain a Student Visa in Spain is to enrol on our 1-month intensive TEFL course to become a certified English teacher, followed by our 6-month Teacher Development course – which includes a range of industry-focused sessions.
Teacher development courses
Our Teacher Development course satisfies the requirements of the Spanish Student Visa and allows you to work legally in Spain for up to 12 months.
You can take our Spanish lessons for up to 12 months and your Spanish Student Visa will be valid for as long as you are enrolled.
Spanish courses with teacher development component
To make the most of your stay in Spain, you can combine six months of teacher development courses, with a five-month Spanish language course.
Our tutors are suitably qualified and highly-experienced EFL teacher trainers. All our trainers have an abundance of teaching experience both in Spain and other countries. They are dedicated professionals who have decided to make teaching and teacher training their career. They are therefore very motivated and committed, and will want to ensure you obtain the best results; they will draw constantly from their personal experience to illustrate the techniques and methodology we show you on the course, and to help you choose the most appropriate techniques and lesson strategies. Above all, we are committed to creating an effective learning environment, by offering you all the human and technological support you may require.
